Start-ups, Design, Education
Hi, I’m Sally Chung — a design leader, educator, and entrepreneur who turns ambiguity into opportunity.
As the recent founder of Designpreneurs & Co., I partner with Fortune 1000 companies to build and launch new ventures through human-centered design and lean product-market fit validation. With a focus on UX research, strategy, feature development, and rapid prototyping, I turn early-stage business challenges into live product solutions in just months. I'm always looking for talented freelancers from diverse backgrounds to collaborate—our business model is built on a freelance collective, so reach out if you're looking for exciting gigs!
Through running the Designpreneurs Hackathon, I bring designers and entrepreneurs together to solve real-world problems in AI & XR design. Originally created to help design students build product design portfolios in a weekend, the hackathon now drives real business impact — one startup raised $4M, another was acquired, and 45+ designers landed jobs through the platform. We focus on quality over quantity—each sponsor, judge, mentor, and hacker is hand-selected to maximize desirability & viability through cutting-edge technology.
“My passion lies in empowering the next generation of designers and entrepreneurs – Designpreneurs.”
As a part-time educator at The Parsons School of Design and The School of Visual Arts, I teach interaction and startup design. I love mentoring the next-gen designers—many of whom I still stay in touch with. It’s been such a rewarding journey seeing these connections come full circle: one of my former students is now mentoring my current class, and I even had the honor of attending one’s wedding last year! It’s incredible to see how our personal and professional lives intertwine, creating a tight community where we rise by lifting each other.
Previously, I led experience design for six years at BCG.X, the tech design unit at Boston Consulting Group, where I helped launch 12 digital businesses for Fortune 500 clients in industries like healthcare, financial services, and consumer goods. Before that, I co-founded HelloAva, an AI-powered beauty chatbot featured in The Wall Street Journal and Forbes, and was a founding member of Saks Fifth Avenue’s digital team, launching the company’s first mobile, editorial, and social media experiences.
“Design-Driven, Business Minded.”
I also serve as a judge for the US design competitions and accelerator programs, including the One Club for Creativity Awards, NYU’s $300K Entrepreneurs Challenge, and a global mentor at the Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator in NYC. Most recent speaking and panel engagements include the Berkeley Center for Entrepreneurship’s $300K challenge, “Design to Entrepreneurship” talk series, the Korean government start-up forum, One League, etc. According to my clients, students & colleagues — A few keywords to define Sally are “Authentic, Connector, Empowering”.
While it’s been almost 17 years living in the concrete jungle in NYC, I take a few weeks each year to disconnect from the tech world. I embrace mindfulness and meditation, and return to the Amazon Jungle to connect with nature – no internet, no electricity, just a journal and candlelight amidst the wild. Surrounded by monkeys, jaguars, capybaras, parrots, and many bugs, it’s the perfect reset.
I’m always looking for new collaborations. Let’s chat!
